Legislative Update – April 17, 2023

4/17/2023 8:00:00 AM

After a 5-day break, the legislature returned to St. Paul on Tuesday to finish the remaining work. On Wednesday morning, the House Ways and Means committee heard HF 1937, the Veterans and Military Affairs omnibus finance bill.

The bill was amended to adjust funding numbers for a few initiatives and to include policy to provide oversight for grants to non-profits. The bill was then approved by the committee and sent to the House floor. It was not rolled into any other omnibus bills.

The current language for the bill is available here. Then click the link that says 2nd Engrossment.

The House of Representatives passed the Legacy bill, which uses money from the Clean Water and Outdoor Heritage fund. The bill included funding for the Minnesota Public Television Association to produce stories about Minnesota’s military and Veterans history. There is also money for a Veterans memorial in Wyoming.

Next week, the Senate will hear its version of the Veterans and Military Affairs omnibus finance bill in the Finance committee on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday, HF 1937 is expected to receive a vote by the full House of Representatives.
