The legislature returned from Easter and Passover break this week. The House started passing supplemental finance bills to the floor, while the Senate started that process before taking time off.
The Senate finance committee met on April 7 to combine the transportation, state government and Veterans and Military Affairs bill into one omnibus bill. The bill included funding for the new State Veterans Homes in Bemidji, Montevideo, and Preston. It also authorizes a new Air Medal special license plates and modifies language for those applying for a Veteran drivers license.
On Wednesday, the House Ways and Means committee met to combine the content from finance bills for state government, Veterans and Military affairs, transportation, and pensions into one omnibus bill. The Veterans portion still includes the items that were mentioned in last week’s update.
Next week, both bodies will begin to pass finance bills so that the two chambers can work out differences in conference committees.
