Movement took place this week after no Veterans bills were heard in committee last week. Three bills received hearings this week and so far, three will be heard next week.

The House Transportation committee approved HF 2966, authored by Rep. Jon Koznick of Lakeville. This bill would amend the eligibility for Veterans designation on drivers’ license or other forms of state ID. After approval, the bill was re-referred to the Labor, Industry, Veterans and Military Affairs committee.

Two bills were heard in the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs committee.

Sen. Bruce Anderson’s (Buffalo Township) SF 2925 amends the county recorder chapter of law, specifically the section of law that waives the recording fee of certificates of discharge from the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. The bill amends the law to include all armed forces branches of the United States. The bill was approved and sent to the Senate floor.

SF 1003 is authored by Sen. Jeff Howe of Rockville. It would establish a special Air Medal Veterans license plate. The committee approved the bill and re-referred it to the Transportation committee.

The House Labor, Industry, Veterans and Military Affairs committee will hold a hearing for HF 3657 on Wednesday. This bill provides funding to renovate the campus of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings.

The House Property Tax committee will also meet on Wednesday, March 2. HFs 2865 and 3066 will be heard. Both make modifications to the disabled Veterans homestead market value exclusion.

The Senate Veterans and Military Affairs committee will meet on Thursday. The agenda hasn’t been posted as of the afternoon of Feb. 25, but MDVA is expected to brief the committee on its supplemental budget items.
