The Minnesota Legislature ended the regular session on Monday, May 17. A budget agreement between the Governor and leaders from the House and Senate was announced that day as well. The work to finish the budget will take place over the next few weeks.
The conference committee for HF 1952 met almost daily for two weeks and was able to find agreement on a few issues. Those agreements were passed on the last day of session, with more work still to be completed.
One Veterans related piece was included in the HF 1952 agreement. That section allows MDVA to accept the construction grant from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs to build three new Veterans homes in Bemidji, Montevideo, and Preston. Construction for those homes is expected to begin this fall.
Legislative leaders said that special session budget bills should be agreed to by negotiators around June 4 with the special session taking place after that.
