The first full week of the 2021 legislative session allowed most committees to hold an initial hearing as work gets underway. Both Veterans related committees in the House and Senate met but didn’t take significant action.
The House Labor, Industry, Veterans and Military Affairs committee held its first meeting on Tuesday. The agenda was limited to introductions of members and staff. Non-partisan staff provided brief overviews of the budget areas the committee will oversee. The committee will meet again on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. and hear briefings from MDVA and the Department of Military Affairs.
The Senate Veterans and Military Affairs committee held its second meeting on Thursday. The committee was briefed by the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MAC-V), DAV Minnesota and the United Veterans Legislative Council. The committee is expected to meet again on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 8:30 a.m.
