Weekly State Update - May 10, 2019

5/10/2019 9:35:05 AM

Starting this past Monday, conference committees started their work to find consensus among the finance bills that were passed by the Minnesota House and Senate. The committee for SF 2227, the State Government Finance and Veterans bill met three times this week to begin its consideration of the bill.

The committee held its first meeting and went through the entirety of each version passed by the House and the Senate. The next day, they took public testimony from a wide range of people including Commissioner Larry Herke. Finally on Thursday, the committee went through same-and-similar language. Nothing has been adopted for a final compromise bill. Work is expected to continue on Monday (May 13) afternoon.

The Minnesota House of Representatives passed HF 810, authored by Rep. John Heinrich. This bill allows the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board to install a new memorial plaque to be placed in the court of honor on the Capitol grounds, replacing the current plaque, to honor all Minnesota Veterans who served during World War I. The replacement plaque and design would come at no cost. The vote on the bill was 116-0.
