We all know our Veterans deserve our gratitude and I will always work to ensure they get the training and support they need when they return from their service and enter civilian life.
Unfortunately, there are about 453,000 unemployed Veterans, and 40 percent are between the ages of 18 and 44. Many Veterans who want to attend non-traditional education programs for technical courses, such as coding, programming, or other IT-certification courses, cannot easily use their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits and are stuck waiting for years for approval to cover the costs. This is ridiculous and a disservice to our Veterans who earned the right to pursue these endeavors. They shouldn't have to be at the mercy of bureaucrats to get started.
That's why I am coauthoring the Veteran Employment through Technical Education Courses (VET TEC) Act, which will fix this gap in the system. This initiative will authorize the Department of Veterans Affairs to contract with institutions that provide non-traditional technology courses and expand what our veterans have access to as they look to pursue a new career.
