Suicide attempts. Drug addiction. Legal issues. Job protection. Getting help.
These topics and more are shared in a new series of interviews with Veterans who want to help other Veterans by telling their stories. Stories of challenges. Stories of struggles. Stories of overcoming adversity. Stories of success.
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) produced these 90-second interviews in partnership with Ampers, a radio network representing 17 outstate and diverse community radio stations. The spots will air on the Ampers network throughout the summer.
Called “Beyond Active Duty,” the series recognizes that Veterans may face challenges as they transition into civilian life after serving in the military. MDVA’s mission is to support and assist Veterans and their families for years and even decades after discharge, ensuring they receive the state and federal benefits they have earned.
“The goal of this series is for Veterans to help other Veterans by sharing their personal stories,” says MDVA Communications Director Anne Sonnee. “We also identify MDVA resources aligned with their stories to raise awareness of how MDVA can help.”
All the Veterans and their stories are now featured on our website here: MinnesotaVeteran.org/BeyondActiveDuty.
