State Veterans Agency Announces New Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Ercan-FangSt. Paul, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) announces the appointment of Sean Ercan-Fang, MD, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

As CMO, Dr. Ercan-Fang is a member of the Healthcare Division Executive Team and serves as the physician responsible for the overall care and clinical practice carried out at all MDVA facilities. His clinical and administrative skills guide the facilities in providing care to all our Residents. In addition, Dr. Ercan-Fang provides direction to the Healthcare Division to identify medical services priorities and clinical best practice standards, quality initiatives and best practices.

Dr. Ercan-Fang most recently practiced at the Minneapolis VA Healthcare System serving as a Staff Physician in the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Department. At the Minneapolis VA, he has also held positions of Medical Director for the Community Living, Extended Care and Rehabilitation Department; Geriatrics Services Chief for the VA Contract Nursing Home, Home Based Primary Care and Adult Day Home Care programs; and Physician Liaison for the State Nursing Homes programs, Home and Community Care Department.

He also has experience at the Minnesota Veterans Homes - Minneapolis serving as a Staff Physician from 1995 to 2014.

Previously, Dr. Ercan-Fang also practiced as a Staff Physician in General Internal Medicine and at the Community Living Center at the Minneapolis VA. He has also served as Clinical Instructor in the Outpatient Clinics at the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Minnesota.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and Medical Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Minnesota, fellowship in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Minnesota, and a post-doctoral fellowship at the Minnesota Obesity Center at the University of Minnesota and at the Minneapolis VA.
