St. Paul, Minn. – To commemorate Memorial Day, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) will host special ceremonies at each of the three State Veterans Cemeteries in Duluth, Little Falls and Preston on Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m. MDVA encourages members of the media and members of the community to attend a Memorial Day event to honor and remember servicemembers in Minnesota who made the ultimate sacrifice and show support for the families left behind. Each program will include military honor guards, music and a guest speaker.
Each Cemetery will have the following special music starting at 1:30 p.m. prior to the program:
“Join us at one of our Cemeteries as we honor our fallen heroes. It is because of their service that we have the very rights and freedoms we do today,” said Brad Lindsay, MDVA Interim Commissioner. “All gave some, some gave all.”
Due to the high number of attendees expected, the public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and carpool, if possible. Also, as a reminder to families: the Cemetery floral policy allows for artificial flowers to be placed on gravesites from May 19 - June 8. Any artificial flowers on gravesites before or after these dates will be removed. Fresh cut flowers may be placed at any time of the year. A full list of cemetery floral regulations is posted on signs throughout each Cemetery.
