2018 Veterans Day on the Hill Rally

WHAT:

The Minnesota Commanders’ Task Force (CTF), together with the United Veterans Legislative Council (UVLC) and the Minnesota Association of County Veterans Service Officers (MACVSOs) will be holding a non-partisan Veterans Day on the Hill event to announce their joint 2018 legislative agenda. Veterans Day on the Hill is open to the public and is a day when Veterans of all eras in Minnesota unite as one common voice to represent the 337,000 Veterans in Minnesota. The CTF is represented by nine congressionally-charted Veterans Service Organization in Minnesota which include the American Legion, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans, Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vietnam Veterans of America.

Veterans from around the state are encouraged to participate and meet with their legislators. There will be park and ride available in the Metro and many buses offering free rides from greater Minnesota. Following the rally, Regional Rooms will be available throughout the Capitol Complex for use by Veterans and supporters to offer attendees a place to congregate, invite their lawmakers to visit and discuss Veterans issues specific to their region, and the state. WHEN:

Monday, March 12

  • 9:45 a.m. – CTF leadership and Veterans will march from the Veterans Services Building to the State Capitol, accompanied by an Honor Guard and bag pipes 
  • 10 a.m. – Rally in Capitol Rotunda
  • 11 a.m. – Regional Rooms will be available throughout the Capitol Complex immediately following the rally

WHO:

Veterans, Elected Officials, Elected Officials, members of Veterans Service Organizations, County Veterans Service Officers and more. This year’s program will be emceed by the United Veterans Legislative Council Chair Jerry Kyser. Confirmed speakers include:

  • State Sen. Bruce Anderson, Chair of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee
  • State Sen. Jerry Newton, Minority Lead of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee
  • State Rep. Bob Dettmer, Chair of the Veterans Affairs Division
  • State Rep. Paul Rosenthal, Minority Lead of the Veterans Affairs Division

The Minnesota Commanders’ Task Force (CTF) was created in 1988 and is comprised of elected commanders and appointed adjutants of the nine largest congressionally-chartered Veterans Service Organizations in the state of Minnesota. Key functions of this group include developing a united Veterans legislative agenda and actively advocating for it before state and elected officials; serving as a non-partisan advisory group to the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), the Governor and legislators on Veterans’ issues in the state; and working to seek and form Veterans Service Organization partnerships in program development.
