“The Luverne Veterans Home embodies our commitment to providing the highest level of care to those who answered our nation’s call,” shared Brad Lindsay, MDVA Commissioner. “It’s an honor and a privilege to provide a safe, dignified and engaging environment where Residents truly feel at home.”

“This is a remarkable skilled nursing environment focused on making everyday life worth living,” said Scott Buchanan, Administrator, Luverne Veterans Home. “We work to create a space where Residents find meaning, purpose and joy and where employees enjoy coming to work and making a difference. And we constantly strive to integrate our Veterans with community members and off-campus activities. We are grateful to feel like such a vital part of Luverne; we’re looking forward to the next 30 years.”

The Home cares for 65 Residents in three distinct living spaces, including a 17-bed special care unit for those with dementia. It employs 160 health care professionals; 31 employees have been with the Home for 20 years or longer and 13 have been with the Home since the first year of operation in 1994. Those employees will be recognized at the June 7 celebration.

Construction on the Home began in 1991 after several years of pursuing $4.15 million in Federal funding for the project. The City of Luverne financed the remaining $2.25 million of the $6.4 million total cost. In addition, more than $200,000 in donations came from local and Veteran organizations. The facility sits on 13 acres of land overlooking the Veterans Pond on the north end of the city.

Since opening in 1994, nearly 1,000 people have received care at the Luverne Veterans Home.
