St. Paul, Minn. – The Minnesota State Veterans Homes in both Fergus Falls and Luverne have been recognized as “Best Nursing Homes” for 2024, according to U.S. News & World Report magazine.
U.S. News evaluated over 15,000 nursing homes while completing their research. Only 19% of U.S. skilled nursing facilities earned the “Best Nursing Home” designation this year.
U.S. News Long-Term Care Ratings reflect the scores achieved by eligible nursing homes as their staff care for people in need of daily assistance with medical and non-medical needs. The data used to evaluate these homes come from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and include metrics of infection rates, staffing levels, reliance on antipsychotic drugs, health inspection results and other indicators of quality.
According to U.S. News, there are 353 nursing homes in Minnesota. Of these, 54 received an overall rating of 5 out of 5. For details of the U.S. News methodology, read the FAQ and the methodology report.
Both the Minnesota Veterans Homes - Fergus Falls and the Minnesota Veterans Homes - Luverne had an overall rating of 5 out of 5 and a long-term care rating of “High Performing.” Both are also considered medium size facilities with Fergus Falls licensed for 106 beds and Luverne for 85 beds.
“The Minnesota Veterans Homes take pride in maintaining excellence in all aspects of operations and Resident care,” says Eric Meittunen, Deputy Commissioner - Veterans Healthcare. “We consistently strive to not only meet but exceed quality standards.”
Jonathan Stone, Administrator, Minnesota Veterans Homes - Fergus Falls, says, “This recognition reflects our staff’s expertise and commitment to compassionate care. They make our Residents feel like extended family and work to create the best possible life experience.”
Scott Buchanan, Administrator, Minnesota Veterans Homes - Luverne, echoed that sentiment specific to his campus, saying: “Everyone on our team – many who have been here for 15 years or longer – makes the difference and is responsible for this exceptional accomplishment. I’m so proud of the staff’s strength and resilience and thank them for all they do.”
Congratulations to the Fergus Falls and Luverne Veterans Homes for achieving this designation for the second time in two years!
