MN Veterans Homes Week: Care that Rises and Shines

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) was pleased to celebrate Minnesota Veterans Homes Week in May, which focused on thanking more than 1,600 dedicated employees for delivering care that rises and shines every day. This award-winning care, provided by teams who show up 24/7/365 with compassion, purpose and a commitment to serving those who served, creates warm, welcoming environments for our Residents and their loved ones as well as for one another.

We were proud to recognize employees’ ongoing efforts throughout a week of fun, creative activities hosted at our eight campuses statewide. Events ranged from themed dress-up days and contests, picnics and barbecues, coffee bars, trivia games and root beer float and sundae bars to potlucks, live music, a car show, a carnival, visiting local dignitaries and food trucks.

Eric Meittunen, MDVA Deputy Commissioner - Healthcare, notes, “Caring for Veterans is an honor that we all share; Minnesota Veterans Homes Week is our way of honoring those who make our Homes so special.”

Diane Lynch-deCombhs, Assistant Commissioner - Healthcare, concurs. “Minnesota Veterans Homes’ employees make a meaningful difference in the lives of our Residents. We are grateful for how they ensure we can offer unique spaces in which Veterans can be cared for with healing and heart.”
