Recognizing Earth Day Is Important for Minnesota Veterans

Being responsible stewards of our resources is a crucial part of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs’ (MDVA) commitment to caring for our Veterans.
That’s why Earth Day is important to MDVA and the Veterans we serve. Since 1970, millions of Americans have celebrated Earth Day in support of environmental protection and a safer, more sustainable world. Earth Day is an opportunity to reflect on our sustainability commitment which enhances our mission while reducing environmental impacts and costs. MDVA encourages employees, Residents and the community to act—even on a small scale—all year round.
The week surrounding Earth Day—April 22—MDVA will host a series of talks and activities that Residents and employees can participate in. Events include:
- Nature as We Age discussion hosted by Joelle Hoeft from the Nature Resource Center at an organization called Age Friendly Minnesota.
- Benefits of Gardens and Pollinators presented by Jadell Cavallin from Little Waldo Farm in Two Harbors, Minnesota.
- The Fundamentals of Recycling has Hennepin County’s Kirsten Wahlberg teaching Residents about the recycling process, how to recycle and the types of products made from recycled content.
Earth Day is now observed in over 190 countries, making it one of the largest non-religious observances in the world. Take a moment to do what you can to create a better future for our Veterans, their families and the planet!
