Best HomesCongratulations to four of the Minnesota Veterans Homes for being named a “Best Nursing Home” for 2026 by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

The Fergus Falls, Luverne, Minneapolis and Silver Bay Veterans Homes all received this recognition. And this is the fourth year in a row that Fergus Falls, Luverne and Minneapolis have been honored!

U.S. News and World Report analyzed data about staffing, patient outcomes and health and safety violations at nearly 15,000 facilities nationwide to identify the Best Nursing Homes for 2026.

Based on their review of data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), U.S. News and World Report says its recognition represents:

More Staffing

  • U.S. News and World Report Best Nursing Homes provide on average 20% more total staffing per Resident per day compared to the national average.
  • Top-performing skilled nursing facilities offer on average 80% more physical therapy per Resident per day than the national average.

Better Outcomes

  • Top-rated nursing homes have on average a 15% lower rate of hospitalizations for long-term Residents compared to the national average.
  • Rehab patients at the highest-performing skilled nursing facilities have on average a 33% lower rate of emergency room visits compared to the national average.

Note: This recognition is limited to skilled nursing facilities only, so the MDVA Domiciliary program is not rated. The recognition also focuses on facilities included in the CMS database; the three newest Veterans Homes in Bemidji, Montevideo and Preston will be included in the future.
