This year marked the 38th annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Minnesota. Every third Monday in January we celebrate the life and legacy of the civil rights leader as a National Day of Service. This year Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) encouraged employees and their families to volunteer to help improve their communities—whether by improving a public space, mentoring a young person, or helping those who are food insecure.
MDVA also helped sponsor the annual celebration that focused on activities leading up to MLK Day, including:
The Governor and Lt. Governor’s vision for Minnesota is to be the best state in the country for children to grow up in – those of all races, ethnicities, religions, economic statuses, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and zip codes.
“The MDVA joins the Governor and Lt. Governor in this vision,” said Jean Kim Maierhofer, Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility. “We are grateful to our Veterans, employees and community members who work on MLK Day, and every day, to help realize the dream we share with Dr. King.”
