Author Al Zdon’s latest book War Stories Volume III is now available. The book tells the stories of Minnesotans who have defended their nation and continues the work started in Zdon’s previous books, War Stories and War Stories Volume II, which document the Minnesotans who answered the call to serve and the experiences they had while serving.
This book is a project of the Minnesota American Legion and all proceeds will go toward American Legion programs for the youth in Minnesota.
“Thanks to the Veterans who let me tell their stories in the Minnesota Legionnaire. It’s not easy to dig up those memories. Their courage continues to shine through. I’m grateful for the Minnesota American Legion and its leadership for having faith in this project,” said Author Al Zdon.
Zdon was born and raised in Northeast Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy, including two years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation, and is a Vietnam Veteran. Zdon is a Minnesota writer and editor. He was the longtime managing editor of the Hibbing Daily Tribune and is currently the editor of the Minnesota Legionnaire. He has written five books including the first two War Stories books; Three Blue Crosses about the life of Dr. Norm Sterrie; One Step Forward, the life of Ken Dahlberg (with Warren Mack); and Count the Pickets in the Fence, the life of Carl D’Aquila, the youngest man ever elected to the Minnesota Legislature.
“In these three books, the stories of over 90 Veterans have been captured. A hundred years from now, people will be able to look back and have a better sense of these Veterans’ lives and times. It has been an important project, and its value will increase as time goes by,” Said Al Zdon.
