The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) has a new location in the Education building at the Minnesota State Fair this year in hopes of reaching more people.

MDVA is tabling every day of the fair in the Education Building, located on Cosgrove Street next to the Fine Arts Center and 4-H Building. MDVA is excited about the new location and the ability to talk with Veterans and their families. Stop by our booth and meet with staff to learn more about The Minnesota Department of Veterans affairs and the benefits you’ve earned through your service.

Tuesday, August 29 was Military Appreciation Day at the Fair where active military personnel, retired military personnel and Veterans received an admission discount. There was activities and displays honoring military personnel and organizations at Expo Place as well as educational booths at Dan Patch Park. MN State Fair visitors also had the chance to see the largest state fair flyover in history where 19 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War-era aircraft flew over Como Lake, at about 1,000 feet, to the state fair.

Minnesota Military Radio recorded two upcoming shows at the Twin Cities News Talk booth on Tuesday at the fair and got the latest from the Minnesota National Guard, Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, Minneapolis VA Health Care System, 34th Red Bull Infantry Division and more!

TPT’s Minnesota Remembers Vietnam team was at the fair for Military Appreciation Day for story-gathering and to speak about the initiative. Minnesota Remembers Vietnam is an initiative led by TPT and aimed at inspiring Minnesotans to remember and share stories, recognize bravery, express reasons for dissent, and foster understanding around the lasting impact of war. These stories will complement a PBS Documentary with a rich collection of multimedia content that will bring to life the specific, multi-faceted experiences of Minnesotans. On Tuesday, Veterans visited TPT’s booth to share their stories which will be included in their Story Wall website.
