Nestled in a friendly small town 30 miles from Sioux Falls, SD, the Minnesota Veterans Home - Luverne offers three distinct living spaces to meet each Resident's unique needs, including a special care unit for Residents with advanced dementia.
This month the Luverne Home received a gift from the 2nd District American Legion/American Legion Auxiliary (AL/ALA) Family Project; the Home received a cement pad that extends the existing picnic shelter concrete, tying it in, allowing Residents and visitors more accessibility around the Home.
This project started two years ago with 2nd District AL Commander Jennifer Kafka and President Vida Bacon and now this year’s leadership as well. Commander Ryan Hill and President Darlene Breamer continued the fundraising efforts to see that this project was completed. This 2nd District AL/ALA Family Project began construction on July 11, 2016.
The full project consists of building a concrete patio on the north side of our existing picnic shelter concrete and tying it in to the existing patio in order for Residents and their guests to have more space to entertain with birthday parties, anniversaries, reunions, etc. There will also be a railing installed that will allow Residents to have a safe area to relax and look at the pond and the beautiful area to the north.
“The love and support the Luverne Home receives from the 2nd District AL/ALA Family year after year is truly remarkable and generous. Our Residents are a vital part of the Luverne community and the connection is truly felt with projects like these,” Duane Mabon, Volunteer Service Coordinator, said.
Once completed, the plan is to add patio furniture and decorative landscaping along the north edge of the patio.
