/mdva/assets/historical-photo-minneapolis_tcm1066-248853.pngThis July marks the tremendous achievement of 129 years of exemplary service within our Minneapolis Veterans Home.
Originally an “Old Soldiers Home” built in 1887 for Veterans of the Civil War, the Veterans Home reflects how the needs of our nation’s heroes have changed, and the ways in which they remain the same.
The Minnesota Veterans Homes system has grown from five men’s cottages and one women’s cottage on the Minneapolis campus to an expanded collection of five Homes across the state. Many have undergone very recent construction to enhance technology and even offer an Adult Day Center, one of only two in the country.
Today the focus of the Homes has shifted to include finding housing and jobs within the community for our Veterans. However, the Homes continue to meet and exceed Veterans physical, social, and spiritual needs. The Homes remain a place of around-the-clock care provided by our dedicated staff who “make every day Veterans Day.”
With this anniversary in mind, we look forward to the next 129 years of serving those who served. For a more in-depth history visit our /mdva/homes/vethomeshistory.jspVeterans Homes History page.
