The Residents at the Minneapolis Veterans Home have started to move into Building 21. The recently completed building has been officially opened for move-in and the Residents are keen on exploring their new lodgings.
"It has a real feeling of being at home. I like that the dining room is so close and it's enjoyable and the common areas for family and Residents are large and comfortable," Dr. Reginald Alexander, one of the first Residents to move in and a Colonel in the Army and Army National Guard for 20 years.
The new building boasts 155,511 square feet over four floors: three Resident levels and a lower level. These three floors are housing 100 Residents in their private rooms for individualized skilled-nursing care as well as have common spaces for visiting or activities.
The move-in began Monday, March 21 and will be completed by Thursday, March 31. The ribbon cutting ceremony in Feb. marked completion of this second phase of construction. The third and final phase with 100 replacement beds, is expected to begin in May.
