Skill development involves improving specific abilities to perform tasks more efficiently and effectively. In this session, we will discuss various components of assisting job seekers in preparing for interviews and work-place integration. Developing self advocacy skills related to communication needs, potential assistive technology, and fostering sensitivity and understanding from colleagues are crucial in the professional world. Unfortunately, many students lack these essential self-advocacy and "soft" skills when entering the workplace. We will utilize documents, resources, links and more to demonstrate how students can better prepare for entering the adult work world.
Christine received a B.A in Psychology form the University of Minnesota and an A.A.S from St. Paul College's Interpreter/Transliterator Program. Christine currently works with the Department of Economic Employment Development in the Deaf & Hard-of Hearing unit of Vocational Rehabilitation. She has provided presentations at the national level on a variety of employment-related topics and has been in the vocational rehabilitation field serving adults and youth for over 25 years.
Michelle has 25 years' experience in the vocational rehabilitation field. Michelle has worked with a diverse range of individuals in various settings. She has been a certified interpreter for 20 years and currently works at the Department of Employment and Economic Development in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing unit of Vocational Rehabilitation. Michelle has provided presentations on employment-related topics, leveraging her expertise to support and advocate for adults as well as youth job-seekers.
