Julie Svatos is a Social Worker within St. Louis County’s Children and Family Services Division. She lives in rural Eveleth with her husband, daughter, two rescue dogs, Fred and Mabel, and her honeybees. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin Superior.
With her family and through her work, she has witnessed and felt the tremendous impact of lack of appropriate communication access as well as gaps in special educational services within her community and she is committed to advocating for improvement.
As a spouse and parent of Deaf individuals, and as a human service worker, Julie has been a vocal advocate for equal access on a personal and professional level and has walked through various systems which are in place to address inequities and discrimination for the hearing loss community.
Julie looks forward to sharing her perspective and experience with the board as she continues to advocate for a more accessible tomorrow for Minnesotans who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing.
“I am motivated to participate on this board as a parent, spouse, and fellow Minnesotan who wants to be a part of finding solutions and creating a better, more accessible, future for our great state.” - Julie Svatos
