The ability to communicate with other human beings is a cherished part of life. There are many communication strategies available for persons who are losing their hearing and for the people who interact with them. These strategies include:

  • Maintaining eye contact
  • Interacting in a well-lit and quiet environment
  • Speaking clearly at a normal pace (no shouting, please) and
  • One person talks at a time

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Division of Minnesota (DHHS) offers handy tips on how to make minor adjustments to aid communication.
