The US Department of Justice recently issued a rule requiring state and local government entities, including school districts, to support WCAG 2.1 within 2 or 3 years. WCAG 2.1 provides digital content creators with measurable, testable criteria for digital accessibility. This applies to websites such as course management systems and school district sites, content such as Google Docs and PDFs, along with maps, video and audio files, and other digital information. This session will provide a brief overview of WCAG 2.1 to discuss the following questions:

Jay Wyant is Minnesota's first Chief Information Accessibility Officer, or CIAO! He leads the Office of Accessibility at the State of Minnesota. The Office of Accessibility works with Minnesota state agencies to imbed accessibility into the State's culture. The Office of Accessibility collaborates with agency and MNIT partner Digital Accessibility Coordinators to empower agencies with effective and sustainable policies, processes, tools, procedures that ensure digital government operations and services are accessible and usable for all. The public can use many of the Office's resources, including free training and information materials along with a monthly newsletter.
Prior to becoming CIAO, Wyant worked in a wide range of industries and careers. His first jobs were teaching U.S., Modern European, Japanese, and Chinese history to high school students and working as an instructional design in the telecommunications industry.
