At-Large Member

Jessica Eggert is a DeafBlind individual who grew up in Minnesota, specifically the south metro area. She is involved with many communities and enjoys meeting with and working with people. Jess is currently a student a Metro State University and president of the ASL Student Organization. Jess would like to express her gratitude to the Helen Keller National Center for providing Advocacy DeafBlind Worldwide training, taught by Chris Woodfill and Ryan Odland. This is a 10-week course, where Jess learned valuable self-advocacy tools. Jess also wants to express her sincere appreciation to her mother, Deb Olk, who was a strong advocate for Jess and her sister when they were growing up. Jess reminds us that advocacy requires patience, self-care, persistence, and validation. Jess was recognized at the 2023 Deaf, DeafBlind & Hard of Hearing Lobby Day for her work successfully advocating to get Braille and large print prescription labels with a pharmacy. Jess also advocates with the City of St. Paul for accessible street crossings.

"The importance of serving on the board is an advocacy as WE are in this together." ~ Jessica Eggert
