Allison Mehlhorn is a Global Change Enablement Lead at Boston Scientific. Residing in Oakdale with her husband, two sons, daughter, two dogs, and a bearded dragon, Allison balances a vibrant family life with her professional responsibilities.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Addiction Studies from Minot State University and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Management. Her academic credentials underpin her expertise and commitment to her role at Boston Scientific.
A significant part of Allison’s life is dedicated to her family, particularly her 13-year-old son Alex, who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing with sensorineural hearing loss. Born with Branchio-Oto-Renal syndrome, Alex has navigated the challenges of his condition with resilience and determination. He wears a hearing aid and has a cochlear implant, tools that have been instrumental in his communication journey.
Following years of speech therapy and persistent advocacy, Alex is now fully mainstreamed at a local charter school. He is involved in FTC Robotics, channels his passion for skiing as an instructor, and loves video games. Alex’s hearing difference has not hindered him; instead, it has showcased his remarkable adaptability and spirit.
Allison strives to represent a parent perspective on the Commission of the challenges faced in gaining access to communication for children like Alex. Her advocacy is rooted in her personal experiences and the belief that every individual with hearing loss should have the freedom to choose their mode of communication.
“I feel all Minnesotans with hearing loss should be able to choose their mode of communication, and access to that choice should be easy and available to all. My hope is to make a meaningful impact in the broader community participating on Commission.” - Allison Mehlhorn
