Karla Sand is a retired Human Resources Representative and a former Medicare advocate for Minnesota seniors. She retired from her work as a telephone representative at the age of 74. Why? Not because she was ready to retire or because she wanted to retire, but because her ability to hear voices on the telephone prevented her from being as effective as she thought she should be.
After retiring and recognizing her limited hearing ability, Karla became involved with several disability groups. Her main purpose and focus was to bring to attention the seniors who lost some or all hearing ability. This happening after they lived a hearing life and now needed to transition to a non hearing life. Karla is very active in our Minnesota community both on civic, political and health related organizations. Karla finds that as she navigates these different organizations, the issue of hearing loss is part of the discussion. Karla wants to support bringing hearing loss among seniors to the forefront of our State of Minnesota and the U S A. Karla has lived in several states and countries and have traveled extensively. She has met and interacted with many people and personalities and knows we all want to be heard.
"I look forward to becoming a member of the advisory group and sharing my viewpoints." - Karla Sand
