Seeking guidance about powering your home with solar?

3/1/2016 4:37:53 PM

Are you looking to help power your home with solar energy? Then check out the latest edition of the Home Energy Guide.

The guide, published by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, recently added a two-page section (pages 42-43) titled “Powering Your Home” that takes a homeowner through the solar exploration-to-action process. From the goals of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, to determining if your location is suitable for solar, to selecting a reputable solar installer, the section offers an introduction for anyone considering solar PV to power their home.

The guide will direct you to the Minnesota Solar Suitability App that will indicate the solar potential of your property. The solar section also provides information on rebates and incentives for installing a solar energy system. It includes solar options for the many people who are unable to install a solar energy system, but who want to support clean energy. Subscribing to a community solar garden is one way people can get a portion of their power from solar without installing their own project. Green pricing programs from utilities is another way to tap into solar.

You can download the Home Energy Guide (pdf) from the Commerce website. Or to receive a hard copy, send an email to energy.info@state.mn.us or call the Energy Information Center at 800-657-3710.

Minnesota Energy Tips is provided twice a month by the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources. Contact the division’s Energy Information Center at energy.info@state.mn.us or 800-657-3710 with energy questions.
