March 1 it Costs Less to Get Care at 25 Clinics

2/21/2025 8:21:50 AM

Starting March 1, getting care at 25 clinics in SEGIP’s primary care clinic network will cost less. These clinics will move to cost level 2, so employees will pay less for their care.

The clinics have agreed to lower their payment rates. This change applies to both Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota and HealthPartners coverage.

If you already go to one of these clinics, your costs will automatically go down on March 1. If you want to switch to one of the clinics listed, contact your plan administrator—Blue Cross or HealthPartners.

Clinics Include Riverwood and Some Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Clinics

The Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Clinics in the table below will move from cost level 3 to cost level 2. This change only applies to the clinics listed below, not all Essentia locations.

All Riverwood Healthcare Center Clinic locations will be cost level 2 starting March 1. Aitkin and Garrison locations will drop from cost level 4 to cost level 2.

What Is a PCC and Why Does It Matter?

Everyone in SEGIP and PEIP picks a primary care clinic (PCC). This clinic is your main place for medical care. The cost level of your PCC affects how much you pay.

If you need care somewhere else, you usually need a referral from your PCC. With a referral, your visit costs the same as at your PCC. Without a referral, you might have to pay the full bill unless it’s an emergency or urgent care.

Each family member on your plan can choose a different PCC, even at different cost levels. The family member with the highest cost level sets your family’s deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. You can compare cost levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the Schedule of Benefits.

PCC cost levels can change. They may also differ between HealthPartners and Blue Cross, so check your options during open enrollment.

You can switch PCCs anytime by calling the number on the back of your Blue Cross or HealthPartners ID card.
