Business Council Application Process

The Explore Minnesota for Business Council consists of up to 14 voting members appointed by the governor for four-year terms, and consists of the following positions: 

  • The Executive Director of Explore Minnesota and the Commissioner of Employment and Economic Development, who serve as cochairs; 
  • 3 representatives in marketing, human resources, or executive leadership from Minnesota-based companies with more than 100 employees representing Minnesota's key industries, including health care, technology, food and agriculture, manufacturing, retail, energy, and support services; 
  • 2 representatives from statewide or regional marketing or business association leadership, the Iron Range, and nonprofits focused on economic development or human resource management; 
  • 1 representative from a Minnesota college or university staff, faculty, leadership, student leadership, or alumni association; 
  • 1 member representing Minnesota's start-up and entrepreneurial industry who has started at least one Minnesota-based business in the last five years and has at least 20 employees; 
  • 2 representatives from the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council and Minnesota Tribal leadership, including casino management; 
  • 2 representatives from Minnesota's Ethnic Chambers of Commerce Leadership and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce; and 
  • 1 at-large representative in the field of general marketing, talent attraction, or economic development.

  2. Under "Open Positions," choose the desired position  
  3. Click button that says APPLY 
  4. The system will walk you through creating an application profile. 

  Page 2 of the online application will allow you to attach: 

  • Letter of Interest 
  • Resume or Biography 

Please attach BOTH documents or your application may be considered incomplete. 

Applicants are encouraged to use the online application as the Appointing Authority will have access to your information as soon as it is submitted.

In accordance with the Minnesota Open Appointments Law, the Secretary of State acts as an administrator in publishing vacancies, receiving applications, and recording appointments. Applications will be reviewed and appointments made by the appointing authorities; questions about specific vacancies and appointments should be directed to the appointing authority.  Applications are kept on file for a period of one year.
