5 things to do before the end of the year

Double check medical coverage ID cards.

These ID cards will arrive in your U.S. mail before to Jan. 1, 2024. Make sure:

  • The name is spelled correctly on each card.
  • The clinic name and number shown under the PCP or Network section are correct on each medical card.

Call the service number on the back of your ID card if you find a mistake or want to change primary care clinics.

Sign up to receive your W-2 and 1095-C tax statements electronically.

You’ll get the forms faster and it’s more secure. Learn how to sign up for electronic delivery.

Manage your beneficiaries.

If you haven’t already, list a beneficiary and review what happens to your insurance and retirement funds when you die. You must make a separate beneficiary designation for each benefit. Head to Life Benefits to manage life insurance beneficiaries. Go to your account with the Minnesota State Retirement System to review or list beneficiaries for your pension, deferred compensation, and health care savings plans.

Check the balance of your 2023 pre-tax expense accounts.

Take a look at your Medical Dental Expense Account (MDEA), Dependent Care Expense Account (DCEA), and Transit Expense Accounts (TEA). Log into your Benefit Resource account to review your balances. Your last day to spend money for 2023 is Dec. 31. You have until Feb. 29, 2024 to submit reimbursement requests for 2023 expenses.

Learn about your options for Transit Expense Accounts.

Unlike the health and dependent care accounts, you can enroll in transit accounts for parking and/or mass transit any time. These balances will roll over to next year, as long as you re-enroll by Dec. 31, 2023. Learn more about pre-tax expense accounts.
