Get out all your insurance cards. Call the number on the back of your card if:

• Your primary care clinic is wrong.
• The clinic’s cost level isn’t right. (First check SEGIP clinic directory. The clinic cost level may have changed.)
• You have other questions about using the card.

If you do not have a card

Call the plan administrator. You can find the numbers on the Insurance Contacts page of the website. You can get BlueCross, HealthPartners, and CVS Caremark cards through their apps or on their website.

Advantage Health Plan details are in the Summary of Benefits for both the standard and high deductible plans.

Pick Beneficiaries

Make sure you have beneficiaries on the accounts below.

• Life insurance, on the Ochs website. Under Life Insurance, go to the Forms and Value Adds section. Use the Beneficiary Online Designations/Changes link for instructions.
  
• Pension, deferred compensation, and health care savings at Minnesota State Retirement System.

Use the Right Vision ID Card

One card for exam; one for hardware

If you signed up for the vision plan, you have two insurance ID cards for eyecare. Your card from BlueCross BlueShield, HealthPartners, or PreferredOne pays for your eye exam. Your vision card from BlueCross helps pay for eyeglasses and contacts. Search the BCBS vision website to find an eye care provider that takes the insurance.

Review Your Benefits Summary in Self Service

Log into Self Service, then Benefits, then Insurance. Review the details below. Call SEGIP Members Services at 651-355-0100 if you notice something that isn’t right.

• Review your dependents. Did you add or remove anyone during Open Enrollment? Make sure the list reflects any changes you made.
• Take a look at day care, medical/dental and transit expense accounts if you signed up . Make sure the money being deducted from your check to fund the account(s) is correct. It should match what you set up during Open Enrollment.
• Make sure your spouse and dependent insurance are up to date. If your youngest child is older than 26, drop Child Life. If you no longer have a spouse, drop any coverage you have for your former spouse.
• Review your paycheck deductions . Compare your benefits summary with your paycheck. Make sure that your insurance deductions are correct and contact SEGIP immediately if they are not.

Use, or Possibly Lose, Funds in Your Medical/Dental Expense Account

Don't confuse your Pre-Tax Medical/Dental Expense Account (MDEA) with other types of health care accounts. MDEAs expire at end of the year (earlier if you are no longer part of the plan.) The IRS will allow you to carryover just $610 into 2024.

Other health care-related accounts such as the Health Care Savings Plan (HCSP) or Health Savings Account (HSA) connected to the Advantage High Deductible Health Plan are governed by different rules. These accounts do not expire at the end of each year.
