Dental benefits and premiums for 2018

10/20/2017 1:39:24 PM

Earlier this month, the Minnesota Legislature’s Subcommittee on Employee Relations (SER) did not approve the state employee labor contracts. This means that we cannot move forward with planned changes to dental benefits and premiums for 2018.

Now, the 2018 dental benefits will be the same as 2017 benefits. We’ve updated Open Enrollment information to reflect this change.  You can see the full list of covered dental services in the online schedule of benefits.

2017 dental benefit and premiums (which will now continue into 2018)

  • Sealants are covered at 80% in-network and 50% out-of-network, after deductible
  • Implants are not listed as a covered service (note: while the State Dental plan through Delta Dental has no implant benefit, HealthPartners Dental covers implants up to $600)
  • Orthodontic benefits remain limited to eligible dependent children ages 8-18
  • Annual maximum payable benefit remains at $1500
  • Prosthetics, prosthetic repairs, and orthodontics remain covered at 50% in-network, after deductible
  • Employee share of the single premium remains at $5

Note: For 2018, the employee share of the family premium will be $38.66.

exclamation-mark-roadsign If the full Legislature approves state employee labor contracts before it adjourns in May, we will communicate with employees and describe dental benefit changes, options, and next steps.
