Starting on July 1, 2017, all employees can waive medical coverage (also known as opting out). The only requirement is having other, non-SEGIP medical coverage in place. As of July 1, any new hire or newly-insurance-eligible employee can choose to waive medical coverage. For employees who are enrolled in medical coverage on July 1, the next opportunity to waive coverage will be during the upcoming Open Enrollment, or upon a qualified life event.
