If you received a letter from BlueCross Blue Shield

-----

December 15 update: Blue Cross and Fairview recently announced agreement on a new contract, meaning Blue Cross members will continue to have access to Fairview providers in 2017. Because the situation is now resolved, SEGIP is no longer accepting carrier change forms.

-----

This week, SEGIP members who receive care at Fairview Health Systems will be receiving a letter in the mail from BlueCross BlueShield of Minnesota. The letter says that the BlueCross contract with Fairview expires on Dec. 31, 2016 if BlueCross and Fairview do not reach a new contract agreement by then.

What does this mean?

If BlueCross and Fairview do not have a contract in place, care from Fairview will not be covered for SEGIP members who are enrolled with BlueCross. If the two sides do agree to a new contract for 2017, care from Fairview clinics will be covered at Cost Level 2 for SEGIP members in 2017.

Does this impact me?

This only impacts SEGIP members who get care from Fairview Health Services and are covered through BlueCross BlueShield of Minnesota.

What do I need to do?

If you get care from Fairview and are covered through BlueCross, you have three options:

  •               You can switch your coverage from BlueCross to PreferredOne (Fairview is at Cost Level 2 for both).
  •               You can stay with BlueCross and change your Primary Care Clinic (to something other than Fairview).
  •               You can do nothing. If you opt to remain with Fairview through BlueCross for now, and if by January they haven’t agreed on a new contract, SEGIP will allow Primary Care Clinic changes retroactive to January 1 to ensure continued access to care.

Do I need to do anything now?

You have until December 30 switch to PreferredOne if you wish to do so. This allows to you wait and see if BlueCross arrives at an agreement with Fairview prior to December 30.

How do I make changes if I wish to do so?

  •         To switch from BlueCross to PreferredOne, complete the form included with the BlueCross letter and submit to SEGIP by Friday, December 30 (forms must be received in our office by 3 p.m.). You can also download the form from the SEGIP website. Health plan changes to PreferredOne are binding for 2017 once received by SEGIP, whether or not there is a new contract before December 31.
  •           To  change your Primary Care Clinic, call BlueCross. For changes effective January 1, review the 2017 SEGIP Clinic Directory.
