If you received a letter from Fairview Health Services

-----

December 15 update: Blue Cross and Fairview recently announced agreement on a new contract, meaning Blue Cross members will continue to have access to Fairview providers in 2017. Because the situation is now resolved, SEGIP is no longer accepting carrier change forms.

-----

You may have received a letter this week from Fairview about their contract negotiations with Blue Cross. The Fairview letter says that costs for Fairview services may change if Fairview and Blue Cross can’t reach a new contract agreement by December 31. For SEGIP members, this means that care through Fairview will not be covered starting January 1 if there is no new contract by then. Next week, you will also receive a letter and a health plan change form in the mail from Blue Cross.

Does this impact me?

This only impacts SEGIP members who get care from Fairview Health Services and are covered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota.

What do I need to do?

If you get care from Fairview and are covered through Blue Cross, you have three options:

  • You can switch your coverage from Blue Cross to PreferredOne to ensure continued access to Fairview at Cost Level 2.
  • You can stay with Blue Cross and change your Primary Care Clinic.
  • You can do nothing. If you opt to remain with Fairview through Blue Cross for now, and if by January they haven’t agreed on a new contract, SEGIP will allow Primary Care Clinic changes retroactive to January 1 to ensure continued access to care.

Do I need to do anything now?

You have until December 30 to switch to PreferredOne. This allows to you wait and see if Blue Cross arrives at an agreement with Fairview prior to December 30.

How do I make changes if I wish to do so?

  • To switch from Blue Cross to PreferredOne, complete the health plan change form included with next week’s Blue Cross letter, and submit to SEGIP by December 30. Changes to PreferredOne are binding once received by SEGIP, whether or not Blue Cross and Fairview agree on a new contract before the end of the year.
  • You can change your Primary Care Clinic by calling Blue Cross. For changes effective January 1, review the 2017 SEGIP Clinic Directory
