ST. PAUL, MN - St. Paul communities are invited to a Town Hall Meeting to discuss Governor Mark Dayton's proposed budget, jobs, education and health care from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 21 at CLUES.
Minnesota Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans and Human Rights Commissioner Kevin Lindsey will meet with St. Paul residents and community leaders to discuss the smart investments Governor Mark Dayton's budget will make to support better outcomes for underserved Minnesotans.
Minnesota has an unprecedented opportunity to make smart investments in education, health care and job creation, said Human Rights Commissioner Kevin Lindsey. These investments will help ensure that all Minnesotans have the opportunity share in building a 21st Century economy with sustainable, world-class cities that are prepared for Minnesota's changing demographics.
Human Rights Commissioner Lindsey will engage on issues important to the state's future including economic disparities, workforce development and business inclusion. In addition, the Commissioner will seek input from the unemployed and minority business owners on potential new jobs and contracting opportunities through the State's most current construction projects, including the People's Stadium and other transportation projects.
Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans will discuss the smart investments Governor Mark Dayton's proposed budget makes in health care, education and job creation. Topics may include:
- Getting Kids Off to a Strong Start. Arriving in Kindergarten prepared to learn is critical to a child's success. But right now, children of color are less likely to be ready for school. Studies show low-income children who attended accredited child care centers performed as well as their higher income peers in measures of school readiness.
- Governor Dayton's budget makes investments in education. The Governor's budget follows through on his promise to increase support for education every year he is Governor: no excuses, no exceptions by investing in Early Education and K-12 programs and Higher education Grants to make college more affordable to more Minnesotans.
- Minnesotans need a strong economy we can depend on for good jobs, living wages, and a strong middle class. That is why Governor Dayton's budget invests in measures to create jobs, strengthen our infrastructure and make Minnesota a more competitive place to do business. These investments will yield new jobs, vibrant communities, and additional state and local tax revenues which will far exceed these initial investments.
