Add my spouse, child or other dependent to my coverage

10/10/2024 9:00:00 AM

You may add family members to your health, vision, and life insurance plans during Open Enrollment for 2025.

  • First, answer these questions to make sure your family member is eligible for the coverage you want to purchase.
  • Then look at how much you will pay each month for premiums.
  • Go to Self Service between Oct. 24 and Nov. 13 and follow the instructions to add dependents. Make sure to Add to Cart, Check Out and Submit, and Print Confirmation.
  • Then watch your U.S. mail after Open Enrollment for a letter from SEGIP. The letter outlines the documents you must provide to SEGIP so that they can verify the person(s) you added to coverage are eligible.

Proof is required for medical, vision, and life insurance.

If SEGIP doesn’t receive your proof by the date in your letter, the person(s) you tried to add will be removed from your coverage—even if they get an insurance ID card or paperwork. Unless you experience what's called a qualifying life event, you'll have to wait until open enrollment next year to try to sign them up for coverage again.

This chart helps explain what's required and for whom.
