10/10/2024 7:00:00 AM

Who will receive benefits when you die? That person or persons is your beneficiary. Make sure the person(s) or organization(s) you name as your beneficiary keep pace with changes in your life.

Check or change beneficiaries for life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and your pension, deferred compensation, and health care savings plans.

  • Lifebenefits.com to check or change insurance beneficiaries.

  • Minnesota State Retirement System (MSRS) website to check or change beneficiaries for a Minnesota Deferred Compensation Plan and Health Care Savings Plan.

  • Call MSRS at 651-296-2761 or 800-657-5757 to check your pension plan beneficiaries. Phones are answered 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Staff recommend you call on a Thursday or Friday during Open Enrollment. You’re less likely to wait on hold.

A note on beneficiaries for your Health Care Savings Plan. Your spouse is automatically your beneficiary if you are married. Your dependent child(ren) are your beneficiaries if you do not have a spouse. If you have neither a spouse nor children, you fill out a form and send it in to name a beneficiary. You may also call the number above and have a form mailed to you. Since money from this account can only be used for eligible medical expenses, you must name a living person. Your beneficiary on this account cannot be a trust, estate, or charitable organization.
