The mission of the Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators is to promote the public's interest in quality care and effective services for residents of nursing facilities by ensuring that licensed administrators are qualified to perform their administrative duties.

Criminal Background Checks - Effective September 1, 2017

The Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators is statutorily required to complete a Federal and State Criminal Background Check prior to issuing your license. In Minnesota, a formal application to the Board will initiate this separate processing conducted by another agency.   Initial results indicate this may add three to four weeks to complete the CBC and application to license process.  Once you apply online or the paper application is received, the Criminal Background Check Unit will contact you with directions to complete the CBC.  The $32.00 fee is added to your initial application and there is no additional fee.  The Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators will be informed of the results and move your application forward.

RULEMAKING Update – Final Rules Published December 5, 2016

The Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (“Board”) has finalized rule making for 2016. The final Rules are published at the Revisor's office and linked on the Statutes and Rules tab above.  Please contact the Board office if you have any comments as we build quality standards for the long term care Administrator.  The public documents are listed below.

ATTENTION Applicants:  Please note the new rules take effect for NEW applications received on and after September 1, 2017.  The board’s decision point is the date applicants submit their original application.  The application to complete the requirements is active for 18 months. The critical date is September 1, 2017.   If an application is received on or prior to August 31, 2017, the current course learning objectives and practicum requirements of (400 hours) is required.  The application would be active until February, 2019.  If the application is received on September 1 or later, the new 1000 hour practicum is required.  The board will approve individual waiver requests only when an applicant has a demonstrated academic schedule with concurrence by the program’s faculty advisor.

LNHA Job Posting Service

A LNHA requested that BENHA provide a job posting service which is now live on the website with a limited group of postings. The Board supports the existing association model of job postings and added this feature as another resource to connect the LNHA to communities requiring a LNHA as their administrator of record.  Since it is a trial period, the board appreciates any feedback to improve this new service.

MN BENHA State Exam - Next Date, September 14, 2017
