BELTSS UPDATE: Legacy Applicants Read This

Attention All Legacy Applicants (Pathways 1-5)

If you applied to be an ALD under the Legacy Pathway and you have not yet received your license, you MUST check your profile here. If you have ANY open items remaining, please read this press release for next steps.

Assisted Living Director Online Application

All ALD applicants are encouraged to apply now.  The Legacy provision ended at 11:59 PM on June 30, 2021. 

 Standard Assisted Living License Applications(ALD) & Assisted Living Licensure In Residency (ALDIR) are now open. Before you apply, make sure you read and understand Licensure Rules 6400.7000 to 6400.7095 and Department of Health Rules 144G.08,and 4659.0010-0210.  The BELTSS office is not accepting new ALD Legacy applications. Paid for and submitted Legacy Applications are open from 18 months are their submission to the BELTSS Board.

Applications for Assisted Living Directors are open!

Legacy /Grandfather Assisted Living License Applications are now closed.  Standard Assisted Living License Applications(ALD) & Assisted Living Licensure In Residency (ALDIR) are now open!

Before you apply, make sure you read and understand Licensure Rules 6400.7000 to 6400.7095 and Department of Health Rules 144G.08,and 4659.0010-0210. 

If you submitted and paid for your ALD Legacy application during the grandparenting period ( ended June 30, 2021 11:5p PM) your application is open for 18 months are the date you applied. .

The Minnesota Health Services Executive licensure legislation was signed into law by Governor Tim Walz on May 29, 2019.  Minnesota Licensure Rules are on schedule to be approved by February 1, 2021. Individuals who have been identified as a current Minnesota NHA in good standing with a NAB HSE certification will be notified by the Board when licensure applications are available. Learn More...

All Board meetings are open to the public. Time and location are subject to change.

Four regular meetings are held each year, usually the morning of the fourth Wednesday in January, April, July, and October. Meetings are held at the board office in Minneapolis. Some variation in dates may occur to accommodate board member schedules.

Apply for NHA Licensure

To apply for an NHA license, complete the following steps

  • Apply online with a credit or debit card (register for an account below to apply)
  • Request a completed transcript sent directly from the college registrars office 
  • Submit a resume showing your employment history for the past ten years plus all employment (regardless of age) at any nursing facility. Include your practicum site and preceptor on your resume
  • Complete the criminal background check through the CBC office
  • All applicants must pass both the NAB and State Exams.

NHA State Exam Information

An application for licensure must be on file with the office to be eligible to sit for the exam.  Applications sent by fax or email will not be accepted.

NAB exams are now available through PSI. Candidates who wish to do so can now schedule to take their exams using the same channel for scheduling as in the past to determine what sites and schedules are available. Testing will be available on a more limited basis and at limited testing centers.
