The Board of Executives for Long-Term Services and Supports provides public safety oversight for three licensure types: Licensed Assisted Living Director (LALD), Licensed Health Services Executive (LHSE), and Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA)
Licensed Assisted Living Director (LALD)
This credential is required for an individual to serve as the Director of Record for facilities licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health as Assisted Living. This credential is exclusive to Assisted Living in Minnesota, and each facility must a posted wall certificate/license of the Licensed Assisted Living Director (LALD). Minnesota allows those Assisted Living facilities without a Licensed Assisted Living Director (LALD) to request a Residency Permit be issued to an unlicensed individual who meet minimum application requirements for up to 12 months to complete licensure requirements to become an Assisted Living Director.
Licensed Health Service Executive (LHSE)
This credential is an advanced credential for long term care professionals. Individuals who possess the HSE credential are allowed to be the administrator/director of Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs), Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) and Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)licensed facilities. This is the nationally (National Association of Boards, NAB) validated credential, licensed by the state, demonstrating the broadest knowledge base and expectations for all leadership in long-term services and supports. Minnesota recognizes the HSE credential as a license; individual who possess a Minnesota HSE license can utilize it to practices combined SNF and AL campuses.
Licensed Nursing Home Administrators; (LNHA)
This credential is required for an individual to serve as the Administrator of Record for a facility that has been licensed by Minnesota Department of Health as a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). The NHA license is nationally mandated and one of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) requirements for all skilled nursing homes.
