Temporary Permit

When the controlling persons of a nursing home designate an acting nursing home administrator, the designee must secure an acting permit.  The temporary permit must be obtained within 30 days of the termination of the previous licensed administrator. The board shall issue a permit to serve a facility as an acting administrator for up to six months from the date of the termination of the previous administrator.

An Acting permit is non-renewable beyond the six months it was issued and is not transferable to another facility.

The board requests identification of a LNHA to serve as a mentor during the acting permit period of time.

Qualifications of acting permit:

  • Meets the education requirement and is 21 years of age or older
  • Has experience in the management of a nursing home or related facility, or has completed a majority of the courses required for licensure
  • Has passed the state NHA examination within the last two years
  • Is in good standing in each jurisdiction applicant has received a nursing facility administrator license

To apply for a temporary permit, the facility owner or designee should contact beltss.hlb@state.mn.us for the application form. The application will need to be completed by the Controlling Individual or designee and the applicant.
