Experience Application Basis

Licensure Requirements

1. has filed a completed application for licensure under part 6400.6100 
2. meets the requirements specified in Minnesota Statutes, section 144A.20 
3. has obtained a bachelor's degree from an accredited postsecondary institution 
4. has passed the national examinations (NAB CORE & NAB LOS NHA) for nursing home administrator developed by NAB 
5. has passed the state examination given by the board to test knowledge of Minnesota laws and rules 
6. Applicant has completed academic courses that meet Minnesota course requirements through a non-Minnesota approved program and a practicum unless qualified for waivers 
7. has successfully completed a criminal background check 
8. has not had an application rejected by the board under part 6400.6100, subpart 5 
9. has paid the required fees 

Candidates with Education obtained over seven years prior to submitting the review or licensure application must supplement the content submitted with the experience that demonstrates continued competency (continuing education, work experience, etc.). 

This option allows candidates to provide clear evidence that they have completed academic courses that substantially meet the Minnesota course requirements obtained through non-Minnesota approved programs.

Education Course Review/Practicum

To complete the request for education review:

1. Download the Review of Education and Experience form --Note: it is important to review this form thoroughly prior to submission.

2. Gather the following to submit with the education and experience form:

• Transcript showing at a minimum a Bachelor's Degree.
• Course descriptions/syllabi for each academic course submitted on the review.
• If your education was completed over 7 years ago, submit the following:
  1) Copies of continuing education certificates or work experience

3. If you are requesting a reduction or waiver of practicum, submit:
A) Resume (since college)
B) Employment verification, organizational chart, and position description from your most recent employer. 

4. For those requesting a review prior to applying, the review is $100. Once the determination is made, an additional fee of $83.25 will be required to complete STEP two.

After the submitted materials are reviewed and the board has made a determination the review finding will be sent via email to the requester and will be updated in the application online portal for those with an application on file.

In some circumstances, the requester of the review may need to take the additional courses that meet the eight-course requirements identified as Minnesota core knowledge subjects and/or complete a practicum course through a pre-approved, accredited institution.

It is important to know:

• When submitted, the application for licensure is open for 18 months (a year and a half)
• Upon receipt of the application, information to sit for the state and national examinations will be provided to you.
• The Board office communicates with applicants primarily by email
