License Renewals

The Minnesota Board of Executives for Long-Term Services and Supports (BELTSS) issues Assisted Living Director (ALD) licenses annually for the year running from September 1 to October 31. To remain continuously licensed you must meet continuing education requirements and renew your license annually by October 31. You may not renew online if you have continuing education courses that have not been pre-approved by MN-BELTSS, NAB/NCERS, or another state LNHA board.

Assisted Living Director Licensees can renew online each year from September 1 to October 31. Renewals received after October 31 are considered late and are subject to a late fee and are only accepted for 60 days.  CEU requirements are 30 hours every two years for all licensees who have renewed. New licensee (individuals who have received their license after November 1 and before October 31 will have a prorated amount of CEU hours and can begin acquiring CE hours beginning the issue date of their license. The CE year runs from September 1 through August 31 (two year period ending on even years). The LNHA and LHSE will be responsible to monitor their CE file to assure that they don’t use the same CE for two license renewal period.

  • All Minnesota Assisted Living Director licenses expire on October 31 each year. This includes all newly issued licenses and shared director licenses.
  • All Minnesota Assisted Living Director licenses will require continuing education for a two year period beginning and ending on even years (September 1 through August 31).
