St. Paul, MN: The Minnesota Department of Human Rights offers a toolkit for organizations interested in hosting a screening of an “Our Rights” episode and engaging community conversations about Minnesota’s history of human rights.
The “Our Rights” series is a co-production of the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and Twin Cities Public Television. The three-part series details Minnesota’s efforts to establish and protect human rights for everyone. Screening events provide the opportunity to start community conversations about the progress Minnesota and your community has made in furthering human rights for all, while recognizing the challenges that remain.
“In the screenings that MDHR has hosted, the dialog was inspirational and sobering at times, and yet, it left people with hope for the opportunities that are before us,” Commissioner Kevin Lindsey said. “We welcome the opportunity to co-host screenings in your community and continue the work of building a more perfect union for all people in our society.”
The first episode, “Our Rights: Justice for All” provides an in-depth history of MDHR over the past 50 years. The second episode, “Our Rights: Raising the Stakes,” airing July 30th, examines the transformation of Affirmative Action to Diversity and Inclusion. Lastly, “Our Rights: Building on the Promise” discusses the future of human rights and the role of MDHR in building a better future for all Minnesotans.
Presently, MDHR can help facilitate screenings of “Our Rights: Justice for All”. Starting in early August, “Our Rights: Raising the Stakes” will be available. Lastly, “Our Rights: Building on the Promise” will be available in early September.
Organizations such as human rights commissions, libraries and diversity councils are expressing interest in hosting a screening. The first community to host an event is Mankato. The Greater Mankato Diversity Council will host the first screening of “Our Rights: Justice for All” at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16th at the Mankato City Council Chambers, 10 Civic Center Plaza, Mankato, Minn. 56001. Rochester Public Library will host the second screening of “Our Rights: Justice for All” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24th.
