Nominate a Deserving Person for the MDHR's Humanitarian Service Award

ST. PAUL, MN - The Minnesota Department of Human Rights is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Humanitarian Service Award and Student Humanitarian Award to be presented at a ceremony the first week of December.

The MDHR Humanitarian Service Awards recognize a Minnesotan and a student who has demonstrated personal character through encouragement of non-violent beliefs and actions, volunteer service in the community and who demonstrated an ability to reach out to others with broad cultural acceptance.

To nominate a deserving humanitarian or student humanitarian from your community, please send nominations to info.mdhr@state.mn.us by Nov. 1.

MDHR Humanitarian Service Award Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, candidates need to demonstrate:

  • An explanatory, written statement as to why the individual is worthy of the award;
  • Evidence of exemplary personal character, altruism and advocacy for non-violence or support of Minnesota Human Rights or the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
  • Evidence of volunteer service within the community.

Nomination Information:

  • Supportive materials such as written testimonials or letters from those who have been affected by the nominee's contributions.
  • Biographical information of the nominee.

Student Humanitarian Service Award Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, candidates need to demonstrate:

  • Sophomore, junior or senior enrolled full time during the academic year in which the award is given.
  • Evidence of exemplary personal character, altruism and advocacy for non-violence or support of Minnesota Human Rights or the Minnesota Human Rights' Act.
  • Evidence of volunteer service on campus and within the larger community as a student.
  • The award recognizes the full measure of a person's worth, not just as a scholar, but as someone whose efforts on behalf of others define a quality of character that embodies core values that merit recognition.

Nomination Information:

  • Supportive materials such as written testimonials or letters from those who have been affected by the nominee's contributions.
  • Biographical information of the nominee.

All submissions are due by November 1, 2013.
