ST. PAUL, MN - An hour television program to highlight Financial Literacy Month in Minnesota examines how predatory home lending, payday loans, credit discrimination and other practices take unfair advantage of people who are financially struggling.
Host Al McFarlane, editor-in-chief of Insight News, explores these issues with a panel of experts as part of his ongoing Conversations with Al McFarlane public policy television series. Panelists for the Borrowing Trouble program include:
- Kevin Lindsey, Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Human Rights
- Mike Rothman, Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Commerce
- Ron Elwood, Supervising Attorney, Legal Services Advocacy Project, Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid
- Scott Gray, President, Minneapolis Urban League
Panelists will examine the consequences of predatory financial practices for individuals and communities and the consequences of the predatory loans and the housing crisis on communities of color. Panelists will discuss current efforts and opportunities to address financial practices that target those who are financially vulnerable.
The public is invited to attend the Borrowing Trouble taping from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 at the Minneapolis Urban League, 2100 Plymouth, Minneapolis, MN 55411.
