AANHPI Heritage Month

May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI) – celebrating the vibrant AANHPI communities and their joy, heritages, and experiences.

Far from being a monolith, AANHPI Minnesotans are Hmong, Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian, Filipino, Asian Indian, Chinese, Burmese, Korean, Japanese, and more!

This year’s theme is Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity, recognizing the impact of building spaces where AANHPI people can grow and define their own path as leaders.

Building a Joyful Minnesota

While we celebrate the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community, we also recognize that xenophobia and racism are pervasive and persistent. This is especially true for AANHPI people experiencing homophobia, ableism, sexism, and other intersectional forms of discrimination.

It takes all of us to create a state where AANHPI Minnesotans can thrive, free from racial discrimination.

Ending anti-Asian hate and discrimination means taking meaningful action towards systems level changes. That’s why Governor Walz, Lt. Governor Flanagan, the House, and Senate have invested in policies and budget proposals that work to advance civil rights and address discrimination across the state.
